This third-year undergraduate course concerns theory, algorithms, simulation and real-time implementation of digital signal processing systems. This course emphasizes design tradeoffs in signal quality vs. implementation complexity in signal processing algorithms. Students map signal processing theory to signal processing algorithms to desktop simulation in Matlab to embedded real-time software in C. Applications focus on communication systems but also include audio and image processing. The open courseware for the spring 2014 offering of this course by Prof.

Through 1 May 2014, IEEE-USA is offering graduating student members three free e-Books, as well as five complimentary uses of the new salary calculator.

It is becoming more important that next-generation wireless networks wisely integrate multiple services at the physical layer to increase spectral efficiency. A signal processing magazine special report discusses this topic in the May issue.

The Membership Board is delighted to announce the approved proposals for the 2014 Summer Schools under the Seasonal Schools in Signal Processing (S3P) Program in the IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS). This program was established in 2010 as an outcome of the SPS Long Range Planning Retreat held during ICIP 2010 in Hong Kong. S3P seasonal schools are typically either Summer schools or Winter schools, and are geared towards providing graduate students, early stage researchers, and practitioners with background on selected topics in signal processing.

IEEE-SPS/Connexions Project aims to provide High-quality open-access educational content for students, instructors, practitioners, and the developing world.

For the month of April, IEEE-USA E-Books will offer "Communicating with Congress -- How to Build a Relationship with Your Elected Officials."

The MGA Member Benefits Portfolio Assessment Committee is funding up to US$1,500 for student competitions in 2014.

To participate, Region contest organizers must complete the funding request form (DOC, 84 KB).

The completed form should include the required Region officers' signatures, the objectives of the proposed project, the activities that will be undertaken to meet the objectives, the schedule of events, the estimated cost, and the sources of funds.
