The Marconi Society is a foundation that promotes awareness of major innovations in communication theory, technology and applications with particular attention to understanding how they change and benefit society. The Marconi Society honors the spirit of Guglielmo Marconi — scientist, engineer, inventor, and entrepreneur.

The IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) is honored to announce the elevation of 73 of its members to the grade of IEEE Senior Member. These members have demonstrated outstanding professional performance, exhibited professional maturity through long-term experience, and established themselves as leaders in their respective IEEE-designated fields of interest. Senior Member is the only membership grade that is eligible to be nominated for IEEE Fellow. The new Senior Members of the IEEE Signal Processing Society are:

Overview
The Board of Governors of the IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) has allocated $20,000 for Member-Driven Initiatives for the 2017 calendar year. The funding is open to all Signal Processing Society members, Chapters and Committees. However, all proposals must include the involvement of the local Chapter to encourage geographic development. Allocation of funds will be competitive.

As a special benefit to IEEE members for the month of February, IEEE-USA E-Books will offer "Staying Sharp—Vol. 1: Tips for Staying Sharp Inside Your Company." First in a two-part series, this e-book provides more than a dozen proven strategies engineers can easily put to work on the job. Author Harry T. Roman shares his thoughts about how engineers can enhance their non-technical skills for career success. This e-book is available 1 February to 15 March.

IEEE Future Directions has launched the IEEE 5G Initiative and the corresponding IEEE 5G Technical Community to address the challenges associated with 5G and lay the foundation to realize its many opportunities.

The IEEE Awards Board administers the highest medals, awards, and recognitions presented by IEEE on behalf of the IEEE Board of Directors. All IEEE members are encouraged to submit a nomination for a worthy candidate within their technical fields. Nominations are due 15 June annually for IEEE Medals and IEEE Recognitions.

IEEE SPS has built a streamlined mechanism for employers to add a job announcement by simply filling in a simple job opportunity submission Web form related to a particular TC field. The IEEE Awards Board seeks new volunteers to serve on its award selection committees and Awards Board standing committees to assist with managing the recipient nomination and selection process for IEEE Medals, Technical Field Awards, and Recognitions—the highest awards IEEE presents on behalf of the IEEE Board of Directors.
