Position Description: 

The candidate will contribute to the development of user friendly dialog applications that use Natural Language Generation technology. This development happens in close interaction with the main dialog application designer and people from the user experience team on the one side as well as the Text-To-Speech team on the other side to assure that a natural and high quality user experience is obtained. Next to own contributions to the development part of the tasks will also consist of guiding language experts to execute NLG tasks for their own native language making sure the appropriate quality is reached within defined project efforts and timing. Therefore, the suitable candidate has good knowledge of computational linguistics and phonetics as their background. Such are needed to support, facilitate and validate the results of data creation processes for customer projects. Moreover, such skills are needed to understand the algorithmic and acoustic implications of each specific optimization decision.

The position will be located in our office in Aachen, Germany and is a 1 year contract

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the development of user friendly dialog applications using NLG
  • Analyze customer requirements and text specifications for NLG generation and output
  • Validate generated NLG data
  • Organize and supervise auditive QA conducted by native speakers
  • Analyze issues reported by (internal) customers and provide bug fixes
  • Interact with developers to improve NLG user experience

Qualifications

Number of Years of Work Experience: No working experience needed, but adequate education at university is a must. Strong candidates with BSc degree and minimum 2 years work experience are also encouraged to apply.

Required Skills:

  • Background in computational linguistics, phonetics or similar, with affinity to speech technology and grammar
  • Experience in at least one of the following: NLG/NLU/NLP, TTS, VUI or dialog design
  • Quick learner with regard to technology and tools
  • Excellent English language skills (written and spoken) - any addtional languages are always useful
  • Logistics and organizational managing skills

Preferred Skills:

  • Skills in one or more other languages
  • Experience with regular expressions
  • Scripting Skills (Python or Perl)
  • Experience with Text-To-Speech technology

Education: MSc degree in applied linguistics, computational linguistics, phonetics or similar.
