The Signal Processing Society (SPS) is pleased to announce the 5-Minute Video Clip Contest (5-MICC) at ICIP 2021 in Anchorage, Alaska, USA (19-22 September, 2021) .
The topic chosen this year is Automatic Medical Image Diagnosis. The automatic detection, identification, classification, or discrimination of various medical conditions, components, and aspects is essential in today's medical practices, enabling for example detailed and high-precision diagnosis to be possible. In various medical imaging applications such as dermoscopic, fundoscopic, and endoscopic imaging, automatic processing of abnormalities and aberrations greatly help physicians in the diagnosis process. Automatic medical image processing also reduces the necessary time spent by medical experts analysing images and video frames in order to find and conclude their assessments.
The submitted videos can cover any aspect of the Automatic Medical Image Diagnosis problem. For example, videos may deal with the process of image acquisition, label and metadata registration, from region-of-interest identification and detection, to medical annotation and classification at aid practitioners. Alternatively, videos can focus on alternative techniques developed to replace medical experts or assist personal pre-screening.
Nonetheless, the contest will also accept “open topic” video submissions, regarding signal processing theories and applications, even if they are not directly related to the topic of Automatic Medical Image Diagnosis. The rationale for this is to engage the broad Signal Processing community to come up with creative ideas. Open topic submissions will compete together with submissions of the chosen yearly topic, evaluated by a judging panel with additional members reflecting the submitted open topic areas.
The contest is open for submissions from IEEE SPS members, including undergraduate and graduate students of all majors, as well as researchers from all over the world. Each team must be composed of: (i) One faculty member (the Supervisor); (ii) At most one graduate student (the Tutor), and; (iii) At least three but no more than five undergraduates. At least three undergraduate team members must be either IEEE SPS student members or SPS members by the time they submit the full 5-minute video (see below).
1.) Submission of 30-Second Trailers:
Submission deadline: July 25, 2021
Announcement of the best 10 teams: July 30, 2021.
Each submission should include a report, in the form of an IEEE conference paper, up to 2 pages, on the main idea / concept of the full video that will be submitted with the related written script. The selected best 10 teams will be identified and invited to send the final 5-minute video to participate in the final competition.
2.) Submission of the Full 5-Minute Video (Open to everyone):
Submission deadline: September 5, 2021.
Submit your video
Announcement of the 3 best videos: September 10, 2021.
Three finalist teams will be selected by the organizing TC.
The challenge will be canceled in the unfortunate case the committee does not receive at least 5 submissions.
3.) Final Contest at ICIP 2021 in Anchorage, Alaska, USA
Conference dates: 19-22 September 2021
Voting until September 20, 2021. The final ranking will be decided by the judging panel, also taking into account the popular vote. The winners and final team ranking will be announced during the conference.
