The Board of Governors of the IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) elected two new officers who will start their terms on 1 January 2016: Ali H. Sayed (University of California) will serve as 2016-2017 SPS President-Elect and Walter Kellermann (University of Erlangen-Nuremberg) will serve as 2016-2018 SPS Vice President-Technical Directions.
In order to protect endangered rhinos, the Kenya Wildlife Service has recently teamed up with the US-based Stimson Center and Linköping University in Sweden in a project called Ngulia, named after the Kenyan rhino sanctuary where the technology is to be implemented. The aim is to investigate how new technology and signal processing algorithms can be combined to create a smart savannah and to help stamp out poaching. In this project, heterogeneos sensors, e.g.
2016 IEEE Technical Field Award Recipients Announced
The SPS Awards Board is now accepting nominations for the new IEEE SPS Industrial Leader Award and IEEE SPS Industrial Innovation Award.
The Nominations and Appointments Subcommittee for each Technical Committee is currently seeking nominations for new Members, as well as the Vice Chair position for some Technical Committees. Nominations for both positions should be submitted directly to each Technical Committee’s Nominations and Appointments Subcommittee. Please provide the name, contact information and biography with the nomination.
The Signal Processing Society (SPS) has 12 technical committees and three Special Interest Groups (SIGs) that support a broad selection of signal processing related activities defined by the scope of the Society. Technical Committees and SIGs are actively involved in awards, conferences, publications, and educational activities, and provide technical advice to the Society’s leadership.

Overview The Board of Governors of the IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) has allocated $40,000 for Member-Driven Initiatives for the 2015 calendar year. The funding is open to all Signal Processing Society members, Chapters and Committees. However, all proposals must include the involvement of the local Chapter. Allocation of funds will be competitive.
The Image, Video, and Multidimensional Signal Processing Technical Committee (IVMSP TC) promotes and guides the advancement of the field of image, video, and multidimensional signal processing. It provides leadership for the technical programs for ICIP and for the IVMSP-related areas at ICASSP; recruits and volunteers reviewers for ICIP and for the IVMSP-related areas at ICASSP; assists in proposing and organizing ICIP; organizes and operates IVMSP workshops and sessions at ICIP and ICASSP; and participates in a range of other SPS activities.
