The Latest News, Articles, and Events in Signal Processing

We are seeking two highly motivated postdoctoral fellows in computational neuroscience to be part of an interdisciplinary research alliance working to develop mobile brain & body imaging experimental and data analysis methods in support of a research program in neuroergonomics ('the study of the brain and body at work').

Do you have a unique hobby or passion that others find interesting? If so, The Institute - IEEE's membership newspaper - is interested in hearing from you.

Through our recent ICASSP surveys we have learnt that roughly 25% of ICASSP attendees are students, and that many of them are interested in meeting potential employers. Many industry members go to ICASSP to recruit potential employees. As an initiative to better meet the need of SP industry and serving our student members, we decided to investigate having a job marketplace in the Society that allows employers to post job announcements for industry or academic positions, both full-time and internships, in various areas of signal processing.

The Technical Committee on Information Forensics and Security (IFS-TC) of the IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) is inviting proposals for the fourth offering of its flagship workshop (WIFS 2012), to be held in Fall 2012. The proposal should target a minimum audience of 130-160 attendees.

IEEE continues its program to develop curricula for use with first-year students studying electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, biomedical engineering and electrical engineering technology. In its fourth successful year, the program seeks high-quality, hands-on, team-based projects that focus on real-world problems with solutions that benefit society.

The ash ejected into the atmosphere by the Eyjafjalla Icelandic volcano during its recent eruption posed such a threat to flights over much of Europe that the ensuing cancellations resulted in an unprecedented disruption of the European commercial air transportation system.

The International Conference on Signal and Image Processing Applications (ICSIPA 2011), organized by SPS Malaysia Chapter, is the second in the series and will be held in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia.

The Steering Committee of the IEEE International Conference on Multimedia and Expo (ICME) recently distributed a call for proposals to host ICME 2013 and ICME 2014, to be held in summer of both years. IEEE International Conference on Multimedia & Expo (ICME) has been the flagship multimedia conference sponsored by four IEEE societies since 2000.

The MMSP TC promotes the advancement of multimedia signal processing technology with special emphasis on the interaction, coordination, synchronization, and joint processing of multimedia and multi-modality signals.

Thanks to the new SPS Industrial Relations Committee, webmasters for SPS, and the MMSP TC, the MMSP Job Opportunities page is now live!

The IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) invites nominations for the position of Editor-in-Chief for several IEEE SPS journals.

The SAM TC addresses the areas of sensor array and multi-channel statistical signal processing. The committee interests span the areas of signal detection and estimation, direction-of-arrival estimation, beamforming, blind source separation, source localization and tracking, multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems and space-time coding, sensor networks, and multichannel signal processing.
