News and Resources for Members of the IEEE Signal Processing Society

Education & Resources

During the last couple of months, a number of machine learning and signal processing contests have recently finished and the final rankings have been announced. Some of those recently concluded ones include:

As a special benefit to IEEE members for the month of June, IEEE-USA will offer “Would Have Liked to Know That! -- Book 1: Selling Yourself at Work” -- by Maura Schreier-Fleming. “Selling Yourself at Work” focuses on strategies for engineers to build a successful career by implementing some of the successful strategies sales professionals use. The latter are masters of communication and work effectively with others to get the results they want. Available 1 June to 15 July.

IEEE Member Discounts offers an insurance solution that provides comprehensive global protection for personal effects for IEEE members in Regions 8-10. Mobile property insurance ensures that no matter where or how often IEEE members travel, they are fully protected (subject to policy terms and conditions). Coverage includes protection against loss, theft, or damage, and is good for 12 months on unlimited amounts of travel.

As a member benefit, IEEE members can take advantage of discounts up to 20% when renting a car for holiday or business. The discount is available at participating locations in many parts of the world. Terms and conditions apply.

IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) is pleased to announce some exciting upcoming events and opportunities:

International Leadership Conference

The 2016 IEEE Women in Engineering International Leadership Conference (2016 WIE-ILC) will take place 23-24 May 2016, in San Jose, CA, USA. Connect with over 1,100 mid-to-senior female engineers and technologists in attendance. The call for speakers is open and partnership opportunities are now available.

Virtual Career

Section officers can spread the word that IEEE offers a FREE online course especially designed for entrepreneurs and independent consultants. The course, called IEEE Risk Management for Engineers, examines the risk-management process including defining and measuring risk, exposure identification and risk analysis, risk responses, risk mitigation, and the value of contracts and professional liability insurance.

The IEEE Meetings, Conferences & Events (MCE) Conference Education Program is offering the following upcoming webinars:

Marketing Your Conference: Better Event E-mail Invites in 7 Easy Steps

Here are three facts to tell members about the IEEE Member Discounts Program:

  1. Discounted products and services and insurance are not just in the US anymore.
  2. IEEE members can buy at better rates than the public any day, not just when there is a sale.
  3. When you get benefits from Member Discounts, they are yours even when you change jobs.

In addition, when IEEE members participate in Member Discounts, IEEE earns royalties. So the greater the participation, the more Member Discounts contributes to IEEE revenue to help defer other costs.

As a special benefit to IEEE members for the month of May, IEEE-USA will offer "Doing Innovation – Book 4: What It Takes To Be an Innovator" -- by Gerard H. “Gus” Gaynor. This e-book focuses on a critical element of innovation -- the Innovator. What do innovators bring to an organization? What characteristics and attitudes do they display? Available 1 May through 15 June.

The special issue of Proceedings of the IEEE in April is the first of two special issues providing an in-depth treatment of the subject of reconfigurable systems as enabled through advancements in the electrical engineering field, as well as the approaches we use to manage complexity in systems having millions of fixed and programmable elements. This issue serves as an immersion into the subject of reconfigurable systems, both for the purposes of gaining familiarity with essential theoretical elements, the key developments in the field, and the potential future directions (not just the next few years, but decades beyond the present).
