The SPS Awards Board is now accepting nominations for 2011 major SPS awards. Prospective nominators are encouraged to submit nominations well in advance of the deadline of 1 October 2011.

The IEEE Signal Processing Society Chapter of the Year Award will be presented for the first time in 2012. The award will be presented annually to a Chapter that has provided their membership with the highest quality of programs, activities and services.

The second annual IEEE Day will be celebrated on 6 October 2011.

IEEE has announced the 2012 recipients of the IEEE Technical Field Awards. Signal Processing Society members were recipients of 5 of the 25 Technical Field Awards

and are marked with an asterisk below.

by Dr. Vitor Nascimento, Chair of SPS South Brazil Chapter The IEEE SPS South Brazil Chapter was created at the end of 2010. It covers four Brazilian states (Sao Paulo, Parana, Santa Catarina, and Rio Grande do Sul).

A change to how Fellow nomination forms are submitted will take place for the 2013 Fellow Class.

vTools is a portfolio of online tools to simplify geographic unit administration by offering Web based software, reduce time spent managing activities, and assist in member development. vTools are developed and made possible by IEEE volunteers.

This year's election offers SPS members the opportunity to cast their votes via the web at https://eballot3.votenet.com/IEEE_SE for up to FOUR Member-at-Large candidates. Three will serve for a three-year term (1 January 2012-31 December 2014) and the fourth will fill a vacant Member-at-Large position for the 2012 calendar year. Ballots must be received at IEEE no later than 1 September 2011 in order to be counted.
