Lightfields and Holography Representation

 

A research position for one Bolsa de Pós-Doutoramento (1 BPD) is opened at Instituto de Telecomunicações supported by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia in the scope of EmergIMG - Emerging Image Modalities Representation and Compression PTDC/EEI-PRO/2849/2014 - POCI-01-0145-FEDER-16693, financed by the applicable financial framework (FCT/MEC through national funds and when applicable co-funded by FEDER – PT2020 partnership agreement) The grant will be awarded under the following conditions:

 

Scientific area: Computer Science and Engineering

 

Admission requirements: The candidates should hold a PhD degree on Computer Science and Engineering, or Electrical and Computer Engineering, or similar qualifications, with research experience on image coding and lightfields or holographic image.

 

Workplan: Lightfields and Holography Representation.  The EmergIMG project results from a Portuguese consortium that targets to design a common framework for the representation and quality assessment of emerging imaging modalities, including lightfields and holographic imaging. This consortium aims to boost an international impact in terms of research and standardization. This research grant is part of task one of this project. The main goal of this grant is to propose a representation framework for the two imaging modalities (lightfields and holographic). The representation framework designed in this task has to provide efficient compression, backward compatibility, scalability, random access, error resilience, and low complexity.

 

Legislation and regulations applicable: A fellowship will be celebrated according to the regulations defined by FCT “Regulation of Instituto de Telecomunicações’ fellowships” and ”Regulation of Advanced Training and Qualification of Human Resources”, in accordance with Law no. 40/2004, dated August 18 (Status of Scientific Research Fellow), as amended and republished by Decree-Law No.202/2012 of August 27, and as amended by Decree-Law No.233/2012 of October 29 and by Law No.12/2013 of January 29, and Decree-Law No. 89/2013 of July 9, and also by Fundação para Ciência e Tecnologia, I.P. Place of work: The work will be developed at the Instituto de Telecomunicações, on the Multimedia Signal Processing-Cv  (MSP-Cv) laboratory, University of Beira Interior, Covilhã, and on the Multimedia Signal Processing-Lx  (MSP-Lx) laboratory, Instituto Superior Técnico, Lisboa, Portugal under the supervision of Professora Manuela Pereira and Professor Fernando Pereira.

 

Grant duration: The contract will begin 15th September 2016, or soon thereafter, with a duration of 12 months, eventually renewable in the scope of PTDC/EEI-PRO/2849/2014 - POCI-01-0145-FEDER-16693.

 

Value for monthly allowance: 1495 Eur, according to table values of the scholarships awarded directly by the FCT, in the country (http//www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores).

The payment will be made by bank transfer.

 

Selection methods: 

  • Academic performance (measured on a scale of 1 to 20), weighting 0.4
  • Experience in the scientific area (measured on a scale of 1 to 20), weighting 0.6
  • It will be made an individual interview, if necessary.

Notification of results: Results will be published at the Department of Computer Science, Faculty of Engineering, Universidade da Beira Interior.  The selected candidate will be notified by email.
