Now IEEE SPS has built a streamlined mechanism for employers to add a job announcement by simply filling in a simple job opportunity submission Web form at the related TC section pages.

In this series, we aim to introduce senior society members and other experts of the signal processing field. This month, we are happy to introduce Prof. Hamid Krim in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department, North Carolina State University, Raleigh, leading the Vision, Information and Statistical Signal Theories and Applications group, whose research interests are in statistical signal and image analysis and mathematical modeling with a keen emphasis on applied problems.

The special issue of IEEE Signal Processing Magazine, Sep. 2015 is focused around biometrics and privacy protection. Biometrics is the science of recognizing individuals based on their behavioral and biological characteristics such as face, fingerprints, iris, voice, gait, and signature. A typical biometric system may be viewed as a pattern classification system that utilizes advanced signal processing schemes to compare and match biometric data.

For our September 2015 issue, we cover recent patents granted in the area of Resource Management. The section below covers patents granted recently for various forecasting, modeling and evaluation solutions approached via resource management.

As a special benefit to IEEE members for the month of August, IEEE-USA will offer “Work-Life Balance -- Book 2,” by Peggy Hutcheson. In “Book 1,” Hutcheson introduced some of the major issues that lead to varying degrees of balance in a person's sense of satisfaction in life. In “Book 2,” she explores work-life balance, with regard to career stages -- young professional, mid-career, and late career. Available 1 August to 15 September.

Overview

The Board of Governors of the IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) has allocated $40,000 for Member-Driven Initiatives for the 2015 calendar year. The funding is open to all Signal Processing Society members, Chapters and Committees. However, all proposals must include the involvement of the local Chapter. Allocation of funds will be competitive.
