The Latest News, Articles, and Events in Signal Processing

The BioImaging and Signal Processing Technical Committee (BISP TC) of the IEEE Signal Processing Society (IEEE-SPS) promotes activities within the broad technical areas of biomedical and biological signal and image processing.

The IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) announced the 2013 Class of Distinguished Lecturers. Five colleagues were honored and they are: Sergio Barbarossa (Sapienza University of Rome); Mauro Barni (University of Siena); Robert Heath Jr. (University of Texas at Austin); V. John Mathews (University of Utah ); and Mari Ostendorf (University of Washington).

Nominations are due 31 January 2013 for the 2014 IEEE Technical Field Awards (TFA).

Effective 28 September 2012, all geographic unit officer reporting is to be submitted using vTools.OfficerReporting.

Starting now, you can join one or more of IEEE’s Technical Communities at no charge. IEEE Technical Communities are a new way IEEE continues to focus on creating a "neighborhood" atmosphere where technology experts can collaborate on hot-topic issues.

The SAM TC addresses the areas of sensor array and multi-channel statistical signal processing. The committee interests span the areas of signal detection and estimation, direction-of-arrival estimation, beamforming, blind source separation, source localization and tracking, multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems and space-time coding, sensor networks, and multichannel signal processing.

IFS TC recently published a resource page that contains links pointing to useful resources e.g. bibliography, data sets, reference source code.

At its 30 June 2012 meeting, the IEEE Member and Geographic Activities Board approved a motion that limits the number of years any one individual may serve in any one geographic unit officer position.

Society officers can access the L31 reporting and search features throughout the year to monitor their chapters’ meeting activities.

Technical Activities has expanded its volunteer training program to include short, on-line volunteer training modules.

Each module will focus on information or a process that will assist volunteers in their IEEE activities. The goal of the program is to provide key volunteer information in a convenient, user-friendly format. A listing of currently-available modules can be found at http://www.ieee.org/go/volunteertraining.

The Winter 2012-2013 edition of the IEEE Speech and Language Processing Technical Committee’s Newsletter is now online.
