IEEE-USA E-Books offer a convenient way to brush up on career and policy issues. Choose from titles in a number of categories, including: careers, public policy, financial planning, innovation and more. In recent years, signal processing applications that deal with user-related data have aroused privacy concerns. For instance, face recognition and personalized recommendations rely on privacy-sensitive information that can be abused if the signal processing is executed on remote servers or in the cloud.

Cooperation is known as an effective strategy in nature to achieve individual or common goals and is a key element in evolution for optimization, as Darwin pointed out in his famous work. Cooperation among weaker individuals (such as hyenas) has the potential to outperform stronger individuals (cheetahs) agnostic to the principle of cooperation.

IFS TC recently published a resource page that contains links pointing to useful resources e.g. bibliography, data sets, reference source code.

This month's featured IEEE News source is IEEE Societies and Communities Blog.

IEEE created a short video highlights some of the many benefits of being a U.S. IEEE member, and how the "I" in IEEE-USA is all about YOU.

Produced by IEEE-USA staff, you are welcome to download this video for use on your Section, Chapter or local IEEE web site, or to play at IEEE-sponsored events.

Legislation to create 55,000 new STEM visas was defeated in Congress on 20 September, despite receiving strong bipartisan support.

While disappointing, the vote does not necessarily preclude further action on a STEM bill later this year.

For more details, please read the article by Russ Harrison at IEEE-USA today’s engineer.

Qualified student branches are encouraged to start preparing now to submit comprehensive, well justified applications and to ensure time to arrange the three required letters of support all by the November 15 deadline.
