The Nominate a Senior Member Initiative was designed to encourage all IEEE Societies and Sections to become actively involved in promoting the Senior Member grade.

This initiative aims to:

* encourage grade advancement in IEEE;
* simplify the application process;
* offer financial incentives for approved Senior Member applications;
* offer increased benefits for Senior membership.

The IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) invites nominations for the position of Director-Membership Services. The term for the Director position will be three years (1 January 2013-31 December 2015).

The IEEE Board of Directors has nominated IEEE Fellows J. Roberto Boisson de Marca and Tariq S. Durrani as candidates for 2013 IEEE President-Elect. The two men, chosen by the board in November, are set to face off in the annual election this year. The winner of the election will serve as 2014 IEEE President.

The SPS Awards Board is now accepting nominations for 2012 major SPS awards. Prospective nominators are encouraged to submit nominations well in advance of the deadline of 1 October 2012.

The Board of Governors of the IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) elected two new officers who will start their terms on 1 January 2013.

In the awards ceremony of ICASSP 2012, the IEEE Signal Processing Society congratulated 53 SPS members who were recognized with the grade of Fellow as of 1 January 2012 and the SPS members who received the Society's prestigious 2012 awards.

The IEEE Signal Processing Society invites nominations for the 2013 Class of SPS Distinguished Lecturers (DLs). The deadline for nominations is 1 June 2012. Each year, up to ten (10) technically diverse and geographically dispersed individuals serve as IEEE Signal Processing Society Distinguished Lecturers. Up to five (5) new individuals are appointed each year, and their formal term of appointment is two calendar years.

Nominations are due 1 July 2012 for the 2013 IEEE Medals and Recognitions.

Our SPS member Sadaoki Furui received the 63rd NHK (Nippon Hoso Kyokai: Japan Broadcasting Corporation) Broadcast Cultural Award .

IEEE will soon be releasing the new IEEE business platform, also known as IBP. The new platform includes new web applications, a new user interface, and a new version of SAMIEEE.
