Society News

In response to a call for a lower cost membership option for individuals residing in developing economies, IEEE began offering the new electronic membership (e-Membership) option for the 2011 renewal year.

The IEEE Signal Processing Society invites nominations for the 2012 Class of SPS Distinguished Lecturers (DLs). The deadline for nominations is 1 June 2011.

The nomination form can be found online at this link, along with the current list of DLs and other general information about the program.

Through our recent ICASSP surveys we have learnt that roughly 25% of ICASSP attendees are students, and that many of them are interested in meeting potential employers. Many industry members go to ICASSP to recruit potential employees. As an initiative to better meet the need of SP industry and serving our student members, we decided to investigate having a job marketplace in the Society that allows employers to post job announcements for industry or academic positions, both full-time and internships, in various areas of signal processing.

The International Conference on Signal and Image Processing Applications (ICSIPA 2011), organized by SPS Malaysia Chapter, is the second in the series and will be held in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia.

The IEEE SPS Chapters may receive up to $3,500 per chapter annually to support travel expenses for SPS appointed Distinguished Lecturers and other invited speakers. In addition to the DL program, SPS Chapters may receive up to $500 per chapter annually to support coffee breaks or other small social gathering in conjunction with meetings.

On behalf of the Awards Board and the Board of Governors of the IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS), John Treichler in his role as Vice President - Awards and Membership announced the winners of the 2010 SPS major awards. These SPS members will receive the Society’s prestigious 2010 awards during ICASSP 2011 in Prague, Czech Republic.
