Society News

John M. Cioffi and H. Vincent Poor have been elected International Fellows of the Royal Academy of Engineering of the United Kingdom, two of only three engineers worldwide to be so elected this year.  They were inducted into the Academy at its New Fellows Dinner on 9 November 2009, in London, UK.

An exclusive article by Petar Djuric, SPS Vice President-Finance, on Society's finances and many efforts for bringing additional values to its members, including expanded access to SPS publications, enhanced digital publications, new conference events and member discount in registration, and travel support to students and distinguished lecturers.

Three new Members-at-Large will take their seats on the Signal Processing Society Board of Governors beginning 1 January 2010 and will serve until 31 December 2012. Seven candidates competed for the three Member-at-Large positions. The successful candidates represent a broad spectrum of the Signal Processing Society, and the Board of Governors will confirm the election results at the next meeting in November 2009. The successful candidates are: Alex Acero (Microsoft Corporation, USA), Antonia Papandreou-Suppappola (Arizona State University, USA), and Mats Viberg (Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden).
