10 years of news and resources for members of the IEEE Signal Processing Society

Society News

A Message from the New Society President: Dear members of the Signal Processing community:
I am humbled by the opportunity to serve as President of the IEEE Signal Processing Society; one of the largest, most vibrant, and also oldest IEEE Society.  We are blessed with many dedicated volunteers who care deeply about our discipline, its standing, and contributions in a fast-changing environment.

The IEEE Signal Processing Society congratulates the following SPS members who will receive the Society's prestigious awards during ICASSP 2018 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

First, I would like to request all women members reading this article to submit their information to the new Women in Signal Processing Directory. The WISP Directory aims to increase and promote visibility and recognition of women in signal processing fields, positioning them for awards, leadership roles, and more.

Starting in 2017, the Women in Signal Processing Subcommittee became a standing committee of the Membership Board, rather than a subcommittee of the Member Services Committee, meaning the WISP Chair now holds a seat on the Membership Board.  Much has happened in 2017, and we look forward to an even more productive 2018.

Nominations Due: 5 February 2018

In accordance with the provision of IEEE Bylaw 307, the Division IX Nominating Committee hereby solicits your nominations for the position of Division IX Director-Elect.  Please send your nominations to Theresa Argiropoulos, SPS Senior Manager, Operations, via, as she will be collecting the nominations on my behalf.

BÖRN OTTERSTEN (KTH Royal Institute of Technolog) will serve as the 2018 SPS Awards Board Chair. He succeeds H. Vincent Poor from Princeton University

The IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) invites nominations for the position of Editor-in-Chief for the following journals: IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Signal ProcessingIEEE/ACM Transactions on Audio, Speech, and Language Processing, and IEEE Transactions on Signal and Information Processing over Networks for a 3-year term starting 1 January 2019.

Please visit the Conferences and Events page on the IEEE Signal Processing Society website for Upcoming Lectures by Distinguished Lecturers.

IEEE SPS has built a streamlined mechanism for employers to add a job announcement by simply filling in a simple job opportunity submission Web form related to a particular TC field. To submit job announcements for a particular Technical Committee, the submission form can be found by visiting the page below and selecting a particular TC. Visit the SPS Job Submission Form.

Each year, the IEEE Board of Directors confers the grade of Fellow on up to one-tenth of one percent of the voting members.  To qualify for consideration, an individual must have been a Member, normally for five years or more, and a Senior Member at the time for nomination to Fellow.  The grade of Fellow recognizes unusual distinction in IEEE’s designated fields.

The Signal Processing Society congratulates the following 39 SPS members who were recognized with the grade of Fellow
as of 1 January 2018:

IEEE has developed a new data repository called IEEE DataPort™ that offers the following benefits to the global technical community at large:

  • Accepts and stores datasets up to 2TB in size and can accept multiple file uploads
  • Full integration with AWS (Amazon Web Services) to facilitate data analysis in the Cloud
  • Persistent Digital Object Identifier (DOI) for each uploaded dataset and analysis
