IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) Kolkata Chapter has been awarded the IEEE SPS Chapter of Year 2024!

We are honored and delighted that the IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) Kolkata Chapter has been awarded the prestigious IEEE SPS Chapter of the Year 2024. This recognition is a testament to the dedication, hard work, and innovation of our vibrant community, including professionals, researchers, and students.

On behalf of the Chapter, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to the IEEE Signal Processing Society for acknowledging our efforts. Since its formation in 2017, the SPS Kolkata Chapter has been committed to fostering knowledge-sharing and collaboration among members from academia, industry, and research. Since 2020, the Chapter has also been receiving “Chapter Certification” from IEEE SPS.

Key Activities and Initiatives

1. Flagship Conference: The SPS Kolkata Chapter organizes the biennial Applied Signal Processing Conference (ASPCON) to encourage young researchers and students to present their work. Three successful editions have been held, with the fourth scheduled for 2025.
2. Distinguished Lecturer Program (DLP): Our chapter regularly hosts distinguished lecturers. In recent years, we have been privileged to welcome renowned experts such as Prof. P. L. Dragotti, Prof. Van de Ville, and Prof. Björn W. Schuller under this program.
3. Member Recognition: The Chapter actively recognizes and encourages its members through awards such as the Best Volunteer Award and the Outstanding Young Researcher Award. Contributions of senior members are also acknowledged.
4. Student Branch Chapters: The Kolkata Section has several active and vibrant SPS student branch chapters (SBCs), with new ones being established each year. Our Chapter maintains regular interactions and organizes joint events with these student groups.
5. Member-Driven Initiatives: We actively guide and encourage our members to participate in IEEE SPS’s Member-Driven Initiatives, ensuring continuous engagement with the global signal processing community.
6. Educational, Technical and Outreach Programs: Throughout the year, we organize various technical lectures, training programs, and educational sessions, leveraging SPS web resources like the SPS Resource Center. Additionally, we conduct membership growth initiatives at various institutions to attract students, researchers, and professionals. As a result of our membership growth initiatives, the number of members has increased every year. In 2023, our membership grew by 63%. Consequently, our chapter has received the Membership Growth reward from IEEE SPS.
7. SPS India Conclave: Every year the SPS India Conclave, initiated under the leadership of Prof. KVS Hari, brings together all SPS Chapters in India, fostering collaboration and mutual growth. This event plays a crucial role in strengthening the SPS community across the country. Kolkata Chapter participates regularly in this event.

While this award is a remarkable achievement for the Kolkata Chapter, we consider it a shared recognition of the collective efforts of all SPS Chapters in India.
