Initiatives & Trends

The financial industry is currently dominated by a handful of workhorse models, such as the capital asset pricing model and the Black-Scholes options pricing model. Quantitative financial analysis is mainly based on statistics and economics methodology. Signal processing applications, which hold promising potential, remain relatively unexplored within finance.

Its applications for financial data would add a new perspective and could further enrich financial research.

Bentham Science is pleased to announce the launch of Recent Patents on Signal Processing and Recent Patents on Medical Imaging

It has taken more than a decade of intense technical and market developments for mobile Internet to take off as a mass phenomenon. And it has arrived with great intensity: an avalanche of mobile content and applications is now overrunning us.

Databeans, one of the market research organizations that follow the semiconductor industry, recently published its updated worldwide semiconductor revenue forecast for 2011.

Broken down into categories, it projects market growth for discrete, analog, logic, memory, microcontroller units (MCUs), microprocessor units MPUs, opto, sensors, and the smallest sector in the list—digital signal processors (DSPs).

Beginning with our June 2011 edition, we are changing the format of the "Recent Patents" coverage. So far, we have simply listed patents issued in the previous 30 days from various signal processing areas. We believe that a much better way to cover recent patents is to highlight a particularly interesting area in signal processing, and provide a listing of the patents that have recently been issued in that area.

For most people, three dimensional (3-D) is just another example of “movie magic.” Yet for the researchers developing and refining the 3-D technologies behind today’s big-screen blockbusters, as well as for applications in a variety of other fields, the work is very real and decidedly non-magical.

Many intractable problems in multimedia analysis have been substantially aided by taking context into account, such as object recognition, image search, and photo management. Multimedia is not the only field that can benefit from recognizing the importance of context.
