Data hiding is the science and art of imperceptibly embedding some secret data, e.g., marks or messages, into a host media. The secret data are detected and extracted at a receiving end for various purposes. Data hiding has been the topic of tremendous research efforts during the past decade from both academia and industry for a diverse range of applications such as media copyright protection, content authentication, digital rights management, media system monitoring, and covert communications.
Recently, the advancements of information technology have unveiled the great potential and a blueprint of the highly connected future world in terms of cloud computing, big data, and Internet of Things (IoT). In tomorrow’s communication networks and data sharing systems, data hiding systems are facing new challenges under the increasing demands on the system’s imperceptibility, robustness, capacity, security, privacy, etc. Therefore, there is an urgent need for i) understanding the latest developments of data hiding technologies and ii) exploring emerging research opportunities, challenges, and applications of data hiding technology as an important component in the future digital world.
The goal of this Special Section in IEEE Access is to collect articles that describe various aspects, improvements, and latest advances of data hiding systems. It will bring together researchers and practitioners from different research fields including but not limited to data hiding, cryptography, and signal processing, etc., to explore emerging technologies and applications for future multimedia systems.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to the theory or system design for:
