2016 IEEE Technical Field Award Recipients

Each year, IEEE recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions or exercised leadership within IEEE-designated technical areas. The Signal Processing Society is honored to announce five of its members as recipients of the 2016 IEEE Technical Field Awards: IEEE James L. Flanagan Speech and Audio Processing Award Presented to Takehiro Moriya “for contributions to speech and audio coding algorithms and standardization.” IEEE Fourier Award for Signal Processing Presented to Bede Liu “for foundational contributions to the analysis, design, and implementation of digital signal processing systems.” IEEE Gustav Robert Kirchhoff Award Presented to P.P. Vaidyanathan “for fundamental contributions to digital signal processing.” IEEE Leon K. Kirchmayer Graduate Teaching Award Presented to K.J. Ray Liu “for exemplary teaching and curriculum development, inspirational mentoring of graduate students, and broad educational impact in signal processing and communications.” IEEE Kiyo Tomiyasu Award Presented to Yonina Eldar “for development of the theory and implementation of sub-Nyquist sampling with applications to radar, communications, and ultrasound.” Congratulations to all of the recipients!
