Signal Processing leaders

I received my Ph.D. degree from University of Southern California (USC), Los Angeles, CA. Currently I am an Associate Professor and Associate Head of Information Systems Technology and Design (ISTD), Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD). I have been an active researcher in the field of Image Processing and Computer Vision. My research has resulted in 14 U.S. patents granted with several pending. Two of my inventions have been licensed to companies.

Satoshi Nakamura received his B.S. degree in electronics engineering from Kyoto Institute of Technology, Kyoto, in 1981. He received his Ph.D. in informatics from Kyoto University in 1992. He was the Department Head and Director of ATR Spoken Language Communication Research Laboratories, Kyoto, Japan in the period of 2000-2008.

Recognized worldwide as one of the leading experts in artificial intelligence, Yoshua Bengio is most known for his pioneering work in deep learning, earning him the 2018 A.M. Turing Award, “the Nobel Prize of Computing,” with Geoffrey Hinton and Yann LeCun. He is a Full Professor at Université de Montréal, and the Founder and Scientific Director of Mila - Quebec AI Institute.

Tomas Mikolov is the creator of Word2Vec which was developed in 2013 by a group of researchers led by him at Google Brain and has been widely used since then (28,000 citations). He is a pioneer for leveraging Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs) for natural language which replaced n-gram language models that were state of the art for decades.

Xuedong Huang is a Microsoft Technical Fellow and Azure AI Chief Technology Officer. He is responsible for Microsoft’s Azure AI engineering and research to bring the dream of making machines see, hear and understand human beings a reality.

Dong Yu is an IEEE Fellow, ISCA Fellow, and an ACM distinguished scientist. He is currently taking the role of a distinguished scientist and vice general manager at Tencent AI Lab. Prior to joining Tencent America in 2017, he was a principal researcher at the speech and dialog research group, Microsoft Research (Redmond), Microsoft, where he joined in 1998.
