Society News

The IEEE SPS Chapters may receive up to $3,500 per chapter annually to support travel expenses for SPS appointed Distinguished Lecturers and other invited speakers. In addition to the DL program, SPS Chapters may receive up to $500 per chapter annually to support coffee breaks or other small social gathering in conjunction with meetings.

On behalf of the Awards Board and the Board of Governors of the IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS), John Treichler in his role as Vice President - Awards and Membership announced the winners of the 2010 SPS major awards. These SPS members will receive the Society’s prestigious 2010 awards during ICASSP 2011 in Prague, Czech Republic.

Nominate an IEEE Senior Member or IEEE Life Senior Member as an IEEE Fellow by 1 March 2011.

The IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) invites nominations for the following Officer positions: President-Elect, Vice President-Conferences and Vice President-Publications for the term 1 January 2012 through 31 December 2014.

The 2010 Annual Reporting and Rebate cycle has begun. Forms should be completed and submitted as soon as possible, but no later than 31 March 2011.

In year 2010, IEEE Signal Processing Malaysia Chapter has organized various activities ranging from membership drive, workshops, technical talks, technical visit, competition, conference technical co-sponsorships, social activities as well as administrative meetings.

Each year, the IEEE Board of Directors confers the grade of Fellow on up to one-tenth percent of the members. To qualify for consideration, an individual must have been a Member, normally for five years or more, and a Senior Member at the time for nomination to Fellow. The grade of Fellow recognizes unusual distinction in IEEE’s designated fields. This year 49 SPS members were recognized with the grade of Fellow by the IEEE Signal Processing Society as of 1 January 2011.

Fellow Teresa H. Meng has been selected as an Academician of the Academia Sinica, the highest honor given to scientists in Taiwan. Based in Taipei, Academia Sinica is Taiwan’s national science academy. It supports research in a variety of fields, including mathematics, physical and life sciences, humanities, and social sciences.
