SPS has changed its nominating process for all Society Awards from paper awards to the major society awards. We now call for nominations from any society individual member, society committee, or society board. Nominations from individual members can be supported by up to two endorsement letters from two other individual members. Full details on the nomination process are available on the Society website.

Signal processing applications surround us and the technologies we interact with. And while signal processing is one of the most pervasive fields of engineering, it is also one of the least understood. In an effort to increase awareness about signal processing, SPS has been working on a series of videos to explain elemental signal processing technologies and applications.

Each year, IEEE recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions or exercised leadership within IEEE-designated technical areas. The Signal Processing Society is honored to announce five of its members as recipients of the 2016 IEEE Technical Field Awards:

IEEE James L. Flanagan Speech and Audio Processing Award

Presented to Takehiro Moriya “for contributions to speech and audio coding algorithms and standardization.”

Want your voice to be heard? The IEEE Signal Processing Magazine is launching a new section called "Community Voices," in which SPS members and the signal processing community are encouraged to share their thoughts on career perspectives, technical trends, and other topics of interest to our community. A selection of the responses will be published in an upcoming issue of the Signal Processing Magazine.

As a special benefit to IEEE members for the month of June, IEEE-USA will offer “Would Have Liked to Know That! -- Book 1: Selling Yourself at Work” -- by Maura Schreier-Fleming. “Selling Yourself at Work” focuses on strategies for engineers to build a successful career by implementing some of the successful strategies sales professionals use. The latter are masters of communication and work effectively with others to get the results they want. Available 1 June to 15 July.

MGA would like to thank everyone for submitting their officer, meeting, and financial reports to IEEE in a timely manner. Following review of the reports, the rebates will be completed and distributed to eligible geographic units whose officer, financial, and meeting activity reporting was received complete and subsequently approved. As a reminder, the rebate is paid to the Section. The funds provided are intended for the support of not only the Section’s activities, but also the activities of its subunits, including Subsections, Chapters, affinity groups, and IEEE Student organizations.
