News and Resources for Members of the IEEE Signal Processing Society

November 2017

Professor Jose M. F. Moura, IEEE Life Fellow, has been elected as the 2018 IEEE President-Elect. Pending acceptance of the IEEE Tellers’ Committee report by the IEEE Board of Directors on 19-20 November. Moura will begin serving as IEEE President on 1 January 2019.

The IEEE Signal Processing Society is excited to announce the newest project from the Women in Signal Processing (WISP) Committee - the Women in Signal Processing Directory!

Image, Video, and Multidimensional Signal Processing Technical Committee  (IVMSP TC) promotes and guides the advancement of the field of image, video, and multidimensional signal processing.

The IEEE Signal Processing Society welcomes proposals from prospective organizers of 2018 summer schools under the S3P (Seasonal Schools in Signal Processing) Program.  S3P seasonal schools are typically either summer schools or winter schools, and are geared towards providing graduate students, early stage researchers, and practitioners with background on selected topics in signal processing. Organizers of Signal Processing Society workshops and conferences are encouraged to submit proposals for seasonal schools linked to their event.

Please refer to the following webpage for the latest updates on upcoming conferences in Signal Processing. Listing of all conferences

IEEE SPS has built a streamlined mechanism for employers to add a job announcement by simply filling in a simple job opportunity submission Web form related to a particular TC field. To submit job announcements for a particular Technical Committee, the submission form can be found by visiting the page below and selecting a particular TC. Visit the SPS Job Submission Form.

The Signal Processing Society, in partnership with TELUS, recently sponsored an inspiring video about a small startup team of Canadian signal processing and computer engineers who, in 1978, competed with NASA in a race to use radar to image never-before-seen parts of the earth. The video is currently airing on Air Canada flights as part of their in-flight entertainment package, and is part of an ongoing effort to increase public visibility of signal processing and the Society.

Please visit the Conferences and Events page on the IEEE Signal Processing Society website for Upcoming Lectures by Distinguished Lecturers.

Alterations in brain development during infancy may precede the behavioral manifestation of developmental disorders. Infants at increased risk for autism are also at increased risk for other developmental disorders, including, quite commonly, language disorders. In this paper, the authors assess the extent to which electroencephalographic (EEG) signal differences in infants at high versus low familial risk for autism are present by 3 months of age, and elucidate the functional significance of EEG power at 3 months in predicting later development.

Machine learning and new signal/image processing techniques are changing our lives at a rapid pace. However, would you think that your vending machine may actually have facial recognition algorithms to offer you a drink? That's new and interesting, but not so distant future.
