The Board of Governors of the IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) elected two new officers who will start their terms on 1 January 2014:

The IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) appointed José M. F. Moura (Carnegie Mellon University) to serve as 2014-2016 SPS Awards Board Chair. He succeeds John Treichler (Raytheon Applied Signal Technology), who has held the post since January 2011.

The Signal Processing Society (SPS) has 12 technical committees that support a broad selection of signal processing related activities defined by the scope of the Society. Technical Committees are actively involved in awards, conferences, publications, and educational activities, and provide technical advice to the Society's leadership.

The Multimedia Signal Processing Technical Committee (MMSP TC) promotes the advancement of multimedia signal processing technology with special emphasis on the interaction, coordination, synchronization, and joint processing of multimedia and multi-modality signals.

IFS was well represented at ICASSP in Vancouver. The IEEE International Workshop on Information Forensics and Security (WIFS) will be held in Guangzhou, China. The IEEE Challenge on Image Forensics has started.

The Qatar Mobility Innovations Center (QMIC, http://www.qmic.com) invites applications for a two-year contract Postdoctoral Research Scientist position in the area of Wearable Wireless Sensors Networks.

Video is a booming industry: content is embedded on many Web sites, delivered over the Internet, and streamed to mobile devices. Content providers own vast quantities of studio-quality video (i.e., produced to the quality standards of a television studio), but legal contracts between actors, producers, and owners limit how and where others can use such video.

Innovative audio and acoustics research projects are opening the door to new applications, in fields ranging from structure analysis to pharmaceutical production to medical analytics, which seemed improbable only a few years ago.
