The Latest News, Articles, and Events in Signal Processing

The IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) invites nominations for the position of Editor-in-Chief for the IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Signal Processing, and the IEEE Transactions on Image Processing for terms starting 1 January 2013.

The 2011 Annual Reporting and Rebate cycle has begun.

In November 2011, the IEEE Member and Geographic Activities Board approved a motion to revise the geographic unit formation petition process for Sections, Subsections, Chapters, and Affinity Groups, effective 1 January 2012.

The revisions were developed as a result of an audit of the current process that identified opportunities for more stringent risk management and compliance control.

A new mailing list dedicated to the hot topic of Machine Listening.

The Industry DSP Technology Standing Committee (IDSP-SC) is now focusing on emerging signal processing applications and technologies from industry and practice perspectives.

The AASP TC had its second annual TC meeting on October 18, 2011, discussing subcommittee establishment for EDICS, ICASSP reviews, awards, news letter, fellow nomination, webpage, nominations and elections, and AASP Challenges, as well as the next WASPAA in 2013.

Please provide nominations for Regional Director-at-Large and Member-at-Large. Nominations must be received no later than 1 March 2012.

As a special benefit of IEEE membership, for the month of January, IEEE-USA is offering a free eBook, The Best of IEEE-USA Todays Engineer: On Consulting, Volume 1.

The cell maintains its function via an elaborate network of interconnecting positive and negative feedback loops of genes and proteins that send different signals to a large number of pathways and molecules. These structures are referred to as gene regulatory networks.

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of New Mexico (UNM) is searching for a post-doctoral scientist to work with Professor S. Prasad in computational imaging theory, including image characterization via statistical information and Bayesian analyses.

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at The George Washington University (GW) invites applications from individuals interested in pursuing a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, for a fully-supported program concentrating in signal and image processing.

The IEEE SPS is now inviting proposals to host the International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing (ICASSP) in 2017.
