Three new Members-at-Large will take their seats on the Signal Processing Society Board of Governors beginning 1 January 2010 and will serve until 31 December 2012. Seven candidates competed for the three Member-at-Large positions. The successful candidates represent a broad spectrum of the Signal Processing Society, and the Board of Governors will confirm the election results at the next meeting in November 2009. The successful candidates are: Alex Acero (Microsoft Corporation, USA), Antonia Papandreou-Suppappola (Arizona State University, USA), and Mats Viberg (Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden).

The AE TC promotes the advancement of technologies and applications in audio and acoustic signal processing and to enhance interaction with similar organizations within IEEE and throughout the world. The TC is represented in several new SPS initiatives. The community around the AE-TC is looking forward to the next edition of the IEEE Workshop on Applications of Signal Processing to Audio and Acoustics (WASPAA 2009). The recent ICASSP 2009 was also a great success for the AE community and has led to an on-going Special Issue of IEEE Transactions on Audio, Speech and Language Processing on "Processing reverberant speech: methodologies and applications", with manuscripts due by October 15, 2009.
