News and Resources for Members of the IEEE Signal Processing Society

March 2015

Now IEEE SPS has built a streamlined mechanism for employers to add a job announcement by simply filling in a simple job opportunity submission Web form at the related TC section pages.

To submit job announcements for a particular Technical Committee, the submission form can be found by visiting the page below and clicking on a particular TC. A link for the form can be found in the sidebar menu of the TC pages. Jobs can also be viewed from its individual TC pages or a combined listing that includes all TC jobs.

Please refer to the following webpage for the latest updates on upcoming conferences in Signal Processing.

For our March 2015 issue, we cover recent patents granted in the area of Deep Lerning techniques. The section below covers patents granted recently for natural language processing, research of neural networks, correlation analysis between data streams, document analysis and medical image enhancement.

The AASP TC reports on elections, the latest IEEE SPM special issue on assisted listening, upcoming challenges and conferences.

Gopalan, Prem K (Princeton University) “Scalable inference of discrete data: User behavior, networks and genetic variation” (2015) Advisor: Blei, David M.

The IEEE MGA vTools team is happy to announce successful new releases for the following vTools applications:

All Section officers and Chapter/Affinity Group chairs have been contacted with a reminder that the following annual reports are required to be eligible for a rebate:

Karl Nieman (The University of Texas at Austin) "Space-Time-Frequency Methods for Interference-Limited Communication Systems", (2014), Advisor: Brian Evans

On February 8, the Board of Directors of the IEEE voted to approve a set of amendments to the organization’s patent policy. Previously, the IEEE Standards Association (“IEEE-SA”) has established new rules that must be followed in all IEEE standards development activities. Those rules require that standards be developed under procedures that incorporate due process, openness, transparency, broad consensus building, and balance without dominance to ensure that all parties are heard.

In this series, we introduce a scientist, who uses signal processing techniques for his research findings, by means of an interview. This month, we are happy to introduce Dr. Jorge Arroyo Palacios, a postdoctoral scholar at Department of Physiological Nursing, University of California, San Francisco, whose research mainly focuses on physiological signal processing.
