Morpho launches cloud-based multi-biometric service

MorphoTrak, a US subsidiary of Morpho (Safran), has announced the launch of Morpho Cloud, a multi-biometric Identification-as-a-Service solution. In a statement, Morpho said it had worked with Microsoft Corporation to develop a cloud service for Morpho's flagship Biometric Identification Solution
(MorphoBIS). Morpho Cloud is hosted on Microsoft Azure Government, a cloud platform with a contractual commitment to support several US government standards for data security, including the FBI's CJIS Security Policy. Backed by the Microsoft Azure Government platform, Morpho Cloud complies with the stringent security standards for storage, transmission, monitoring, and recovery of digital information.

Iris recognition market to reach $167.9M by 2019

A Frost & Sullivan report entitled “5-year Opportunity Analysis of the Global Iris Recognition Market”, finds that the iris recognition market will increase revenues from $142.9 million in 2014 to reach $167.9 million in 2019. The report finds that iris recognition will experience strong growth in the hospitality, healthcare and finance sectors over the long term as prices decline. As a contactless and non-intrusive method of identification, iris recognition will also increase in the healthcare space in the long run, while the integration of iris capture into smartphones offer many growth opportunities in the biometric space, said the report.

Apple Pay to drive biometric transactions ‘to $5 bn by 2019’

Increasing usage of Apple Pay will encourage growth of payments authenticated by biometric security to a value of $5 billion in transactions by 2019, according to British research group Juniper. The findings were released as part of a new report, “Mobile Identity, Authentication & Tokenisation 2015-2020”, which also stated that Apple Inc. and Samsung will account for $130 million in transactions that year, primarily in the United States, United Kingdom and South Korea. Currently, these are the only companies using fingerprint security for transactions on a broad scale. But the report argued that incorporation into additional mobile wallets would be spurred by a greater availability of fingerprint scanners in mid-range smartphones.
