News and Resources for Members of the IEEE Signal Processing Society

June 2016

In 2013, the IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) introduced SigView – our online portal of video tutorials in emerging signal processing topics. Over three years, SigView amassed more than 70 videos of technical tutorials, conference recordings, presentations, and more, setting a standard for quality, vetted , and timely signal processing resources.

As the Society’s membership grows and evolves, so should its products and services. To that end, we introduce SPS’s newest member benefit – the SPS Resource Center.

The IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) is honored to announce the elevation of 32 of its members to the grade of IEEE Senior Member. These members have demonstrated outstanding professional performance, exhibited professional maturity through long-term experience, and established themselves as leaders in their respective IEEE-designated fields of interest. Senior Member is the only membership grade that is eligible to be nominated for IEEE Fellow. The new Senior Members of the IEEE Signal Processing Society are:

2017 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing (ICASSP 2017) New Orleans, USA March 5-9, 2017

"Discrete Fourier and Wavelet Transforms: An Introduction through Linear Algebra with Applications to Signal Processing" is a new undergraduate textbook authored by Roe W Goodman from Rutgers University. This textbook for undergraduate mathematics, science, and engineering students introduces the theory and applications of discrete Fourier and wavelet transforms using elementary linear algebra, without assuming prior knowledge of signal processing or advanced analysis.

Researchers from the Future Interfaces Group, an interdisciplinary research lab at Carnegie Mellon University, have developed a wearable interface that turns the skin on your arm into a touchscreen for your smartwatch.

The idea of representing a signal as a vector living in some linear vector space has borne tremendous fruit in signal processing: this viewpoint provides an encompassing framework for classical least-squares and subspace-based signal processing, and a language with which to model a signal’s structural properties.
