News and Resources for Members of the IEEE Signal Processing Society

Call for Applications: Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU)

FAU is launching the new elite Master’s degree programme Advanced Signal Processing and Communications Engineering (ASC). The programme is being funded for five years by the Elite Network of Bavaria. All courses are to be taught in English. The ASC Master’s degree programme is intended for outstanding students with a Bachelor’s degree in the field of information and communication engineering. In order to successfully implement the elite Master’s degree programme, the Faculty of Engineering at FAU invites applications for a:

W2 Professorship for Signal Processing and a W2 Professorship for Digital Communications

at the Department of Electrical, Electronic and Communication Engineering (EEI) to be filled by 1 October 2016.

Applicants for the Professorship for Signal Processing should have expertise in at least
two of the following areas:

  • adaptive and nonlinear signal processing
  • machine learning/data-based learning algorithms
  • statistical signal processing
  • sensor array processing
  • information theory

Applicants for the Professorship for Digital Communications should have expertise in at
least two of the following areas:

  • information theory
  • multiple-antenna systems
  • transmission concepts for 5G communication systems
  • cross-layer optimisation for wireless communication systems
  • resource allocation and optimisation in communications
  • network coding

Both professorships have a five-year term limit.

The successful candidates are expected to represent their fields adequately in teaching
and research. Participation in the ASC Master’s degree programme is compulsory.
Participation in other undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes at EEI is
expected and collaboration with other departments, in particular the Department of
Computer Science is desirable.

Prerequisites for the position are a university degree, university level teaching experience,
a doctoral degree, and additional academic qualifications. These should be in the form of
a Habilitation (post-doctoral thesis) or equivalent academic publications. The necessary
qualifications may also have been acquired in a non-university context or through a junior
faculty position (e.g. W1 Professor or Assistant Professor).

FAU expects applicants to become actively involved in the administration of academic
affairs and welcomes experience in managing research projects and raising third-party
funding.

The University of Erlangen-Nürnberg pursues a policy of intense student mentoring and
therefore expects its teaching staff to be present during lecture periods.

FAU is an equal opportunities and family-friendly employer and is also responsive to the
needs of dual career couples. In order to increase the number of women in leading
positions, we specifically encourage women to apply.

Please submit your complete application documents (CV, list of publications, list of
lectures and courses taught, copies of certificates and degrees, list of third-party funding)
online at www.berufungen.fau.de by 16-Jun-2016. Please contact tf-dekanat@fau.de with
any questions.
