News and Resources for Members of the IEEE Signal Processing Society

News & Announcements

The forms to petition MGA and other organizational units for the approval of new geographic units have recently been updated.

The forms are used to propose the formation of a Section, Subsection, Geographic Council, Chapter, Affinity Group, Student Branch, Student Branch Chapter, or Student Branch Affinity Group. Updates to the forms include making the signature form page one, clarification and emphasis on the eligibility requirements, and updated resource links for when a petition organizer needs additional information.

As of Sunday, 16 August, anyone joining IEEE becomes a member for the 2016 membership year.

This is a valuable time to promote IEEE membership.

Anyone joining now will receive the remainder of 2015 at no additional cost.

Email Nicole Dewhurst, Member and Geographic Activities, at n.dewhurst@ieee.org for more information on how you can incorporate a "join" message in your communications

Please be aware of the following timeline for renewals:

Although IEEE Collabratec has been freely available for over six months, the formal launch and marketing began on 21 September. You may have already started to see messaging within IEEE communication vehicles such as Society newsletters, membership emails, ieee.org, Spectrum advertising, and various online social mediums outside of IEEE.

You may have already had a chance to connect and collaborate with IEEE members and technology professionals on IEEE Collabratec and are aware of its benefits. Below are some highlights:

The IEEE Signal Processing Society Chapter of the Year Award will be presented for the fifth time in 2016. The award will be presented annually to a Chapter that has provided their membership with the highest quality of programs, activities and services. The award will be presented annually in conjunction with the International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing (ICASSP) to the Chapter’s representative. The award will consist of a certificate and a check in the amount of $1,000 to support local chapter activities.

Are you a practicing engineer who would like to attend GlobalSIP 2015? Talk to your local Chapter Chair about how you can qualify for travel support to attend the conference in Orlando, Florida, USA this December!

The SPS Executive Committee recently approved an initiative that would provide limited Society support for SPS Chapters to send up to two members each to the IEEE Global Conference on Signal and Information Processing (GlobalSIP) from 14-16 December 2015.

The fourth IEEE Global Conference on Signal and Information Processing (GlobalSIP) will be held in Greater Washington, DC, USA on December 7–9, 2016. GlobalSIP has rapidly assumed flagship status within the IEEE Signal Processing Society. It focuses on signal and information processing and up-and-coming signal processing themes. The conference aims to feature world-class speakers, tutorials, exhibits, and oral and poster sessions. GlobalSIP is comprised of co-located symposia selected based on responses to the Call for Symposium Proposals. Topics include but are not limited to:
