News and Resources for Members of the IEEE Signal Processing Society
Eleven video presentations from ICASSP 2010 and IEEE-THEMES 2010 are now available on IEEE.tv . The ICASSP collection includes presentations by Ronald Schafer, Metin Akay, James Truchard, and Moeness Amin. The THEMES collection includes the keynote address by Vwani Roychowdhury, as well as seven author presentations on Signal and Information Processing for Social Networks.
About IEEE.tv: Built upon the foundation of IEEE's rich history and mission of fostering technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity, IEEE.tv was launched in August 2006. IEEE.tv Public Access is free to the general public, and made possible by the members of IEEE and select industry-sponsors. IEEE.tv is an award-winning, Internet-based television network. IEEE.tv produces and delivers special-interest programming about technology and engineering for the benefit of IEEE's member and the general public. IEEE members can log in to access special members-only programs and site features including downloads and transcripts.
ICASSP Speaker Highlights
ICASSP2010: The 35th International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing (ICASSP) was held at the Sheraton Dallas Hotel, Texas, USA, March 14 – 19, 2010. ICASSP is the world’s largest and most comprehensive technical conference focused on signal processing and its applications. The conference featured world-class speakers, tutorials, exhibits, and over 120 lecture and poster sessions on a host of topics.
Four plenary talks are included in the ICASSP2010 Event Showcase at IEEE.tv, including:
The featured ICASSP2010 Keynote was Ronald Schafer’s presentation (ICASSP 2010 - Science and Technology of DSP) celebrating the past progress and making assumptions about what the future might hold for the field of DSP. Dr. Shafer is one of the world’s leading authorities on digital signal processing. As a HP Fellow at HP Labs he is focusing on problems of acoustic signal processing for audio communication and entertainment.

IEEE-THEMES 2010: IEEE-THEMES (IEEE-Thematic Meetings in Signal Processing) is a new joint initiative of the Conference Board and the Publication Board of the IEEE Signal Processing Society (cf. eNews July 2009). The first THEMES was held on March 15, 2010 in Dallas, a one day conjunction with ICASSP2010 at the Sheraton Dallas Hotel in Dallas, Texas, USA. IEEE-THEMES is organized in a single track to cover intensively one focus area each meeting. IEEE-THEMES 2010 focused on “Signal and Information Processing for Social Networks” (cf. eNews Feb 2010). For IEEE-THEMES 2010, over forty submissions were received and undergone a thorough review process similar to those of papers that are submitted to IEEE Transactions and Journals. The best eight papers were selected for presentation at THEMES and inclusion in a special issue of the IEEE Journal of Special Topics in Signal Processing (cf. eNews Feb 2010).
The keynote speaker of THEMES 2010, Vwani Roychowdhury, discusses the Science of Social Networking: Mining, Modeling, and Monetizing the Social Media Revolution. Dr. Roychowdhury is an internationally recognized researcher and esteemed professor at the University of California Los Angeles.
Seven author presentations are also included in the IEEE-THEMES2010 Event Showcase at IEEE.tv. The list of papers to be presented at THEMES can be found online.
