Welcome to the September edition of Speech and Language Processing Technical Committee (SLTC) Newsletter of 2019!
Interspeech 2019 was just a few weeks ago in Graz, Austria. Mark Hasegawa-Johnson, Minjie Kim and Mary Pietrowicz have offered a recap of the conference. (I also found this reaction post on medium which was written by John Kane.)
It is that time again... We are looking for new members of the SLTC! Perhaps most importantly, we are looking for nominees for Vice Chair of the SLTC who will serve for 1 year as Vice Chair and then a 2 year term as Chair. So nominate your friends. Nominate yourself! This is an especially rewarding service and a really lovely group of people. Find additional details here, or go straight to the nomination form. The deadline is October 20.
In this edition of "Getting to Know Your Fellow Researchers" we are thrilled to get to know Shrikanth Narayanan of the University of Southern California. Dr. Narayanan is a Fellow SEVEN times over. Being acknowledged by IEEE and ISCA along with the National Academy of Inventors (NAI), the Acoustical Society of America (ASA), the Association for Psychological Science (APS), the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE).
As ever, we'd like to draw your attention to our community's upcoming conferences and workshops and job postings.
And in case you didn’t know:
This newsletter is an ideal forum for updates, reports, announcements and editorials which don't fit well with traditional journals. We welcome your contributions, as well as calls for papers, job announcements, comments and suggestions. You can submit job postings here, and contact the TC via this form, or send mail to speechnewseds@listserv.ieee.org to propose articles. To subscribe to the Newsletter, send an email with the command "subscribe speechnewsdist" in the message body to listserv@listserv.ieee.org.
If you want to stay connected to the IEEE SLTC between newsletters, we are on twitter @IEEE_SLTC.
