R&D Electrical Engineer with System Test Equipment Engineering Group at Sandia National Laboratories
It’s not uncommon to find that engineers and scientists are reluctant to change. Unlike new features on your smart phone, new ideas in engineering and science can be received with a cold shoulder and large doses of skepticism. For anyone in the field, the statement “this is the way we have always been doing it” is heard numerous times during engineering design sessions. Most engineering teams would rather spend their time designing an automatic screwdriver than designing a new screw.

In this series, we aim to introduce senior society members and other experts of the signal processing field. This month, we are happy to introduce Prof. Vincenzo Matta from the Department of Information and Electrical Engineering and Applied Mathematics of the University of Salerno, Italy.

Shenzhen University

A Chair professor team of Shenzhen University is recruiting Posr-doctors, we offer a promising future to outstanding researchers with passion in research, and the salary is also promising, too.

University of Nice Sophia Antipolis

Applications are invited for a 2-year postdoctoral researcher position at  Lagrange Laboratory located in Nice (France). This position is available from october 2016.

Successful candidate will work in the signal processing group of Lagrange Laboratory to develop new theory and algorithms for large scale image reconstruction with application to radio astronomy. The group includes André Ferrari,  Prof., Chiara Ferrari, Ast. and David Mary, Prof.

KU Leuven
In the STADIUS group of the Department of Electrical Engineering (ESAT) of KU Leuven, we are looking for a motivated Ph.D. candidate with an interest in array or multi-channel signal processing and applications thereof in electroencephalography (EEG).

Carnegie Mellon University - Language Technologies Institute

The Language Technologies Institute (LTI) in the School of Computer Science (SCS) at Carnegie Mellon University invites applications for tenure-track positions, beginning Fall 2017. LTI is an academic department dedicated to the study of human language and information technologies, with approximately thirty faculty members.

The Fellow Reference Committee is seeking nominations for five new members of the 2017 Fellow Reference Committee. The term of appointment is three years, non-renewable (1 January 2017-31 December 2019). The position is responsible for evaluating nominations for IEEE Fellow that are referred for review by the IEEE Fellow Committee. Candidates must hold the grade of IEEE Fellow and must be an SPS Member.

Please visit the Conferences and Events page on the IEEE Signal Processing Society website for upcoming Lectures by Distinguished Lecturers.

The fourth IEEE Global Conference on Signal and Information Processing (GlobalSIP) will be held in Greater Washington, DC, USA on December 7–9, 2016. The conference features world-class plenary and keynote talks, tutorials and government panel discussions, as well as co-located
timely symposia selected based on the responses to the Call for Symposium Proposals.

IEEE SPS has built a streamlined mechanism for employers to add a job announcement by simply filling in a simple job opportunity submission Web form related to a particular TC field.

To submit job announcements for a particular Technical Committee, the submission form can be found by visiting the page below and selecting a particular TC.

The IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) is honored to announce the elevation of 18 of its members to the grade of IEEE Senior Member. These members have demonstrated outstanding professional performance, exhibited professional maturity through long-term experience, and established themselves as leaders in their respective IEEE-designated fields of interest. Senior Member is the only membership grade that is eligible to be nominated for IEEE Fellow.

Please refer to the following webpage for the latest updates on upcoming conferences in Signal Processing.

Listing of all conferences

The Machine Learning for Signal Processing Technical Committee (MLSP TC) is involved with activities that facilitate the use of machine learning techniques for signal processing problems through advances in both the theory and practice of machine learning.

For our October 2016 issue, we cover recent patents dealing with radar imaging. The section below covers patents granted recently for radar signal visualization, synthetic radar imaging, compressive imaging techniques, object detection and fusion, and radar based navigation.
