Under the Radar Soars Above at the Vancouver Short Film Festival

The 8th Annual Vancouver Short Film Festival took place in Vancouver, BC, Canada this past January, and SPS earned it spots on the silver screen! Erin Cumming, director of Under the Radar, took home the Audience Choice Award during the festival.

Under the Radar, which was produced by SPS Past President Rabab Ward, recounts an inspiring signal processing story in which an upstart team of Canadian engineers goes head-to-head with NASA in a race to process images in never-before-seen parts of the earth. The short film was co-sponsored between the IEEE Signal Processing Society and TELUS, and was featured on Air Canada flights throughout 2017. It is part of an ongoing effort to increase visibility of signal processing and its applications to a broader audience.
