The Latest News, Articles, and Events in Signal Processing

Henze Bancroft, Leah C. (The University of Wisconsin - Madison) “High Resolution Magnetic Resonance Imaging of the Bilateral Breasts Using an Accelerated 3D Radial Trajectory”, Advisor: Block, Walter F. (2014)

The University of Texas at San Antonio is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to be part of an interdisciplinary research alliance (Cognition and Neuroergonomics Collaborative Research Alliances (CNACTA)) working to develop data analysis and management methods and tools for mobile brain/body imaging data in support of a research program in neuroergonomics (the study of the brain and body at work).

Overview

The Board of Governors of the IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) has allocated $40,000 for Member-Driven Initiatives for the 2014 calendar year. The funding is open to all Signal Processing Society members, Chapters and Committees. All proposals must include the involvement of one or more local Chapters to encourage geographic development. Allocation of funds will be competitive.

The Centre for Ultrahigh bandwidth Devices for Optical Systems (CUDOS) group at the University of Sydney currently has a vacancy for an experienced researcher in the field of optical signal processing for coherent communication systems working in the Terabit per Second (Tb/S) flagship project.

Since Feburary 2013, IEEE Special Technical Community on Social Network (STCSN) has launched its E-letter on social network related projects and researches every three months on the website (http://stcsn.ieee.net/e-letter).

The aim of the Signal Processing Cup (SP Cup) competition is to provide undergraduate students with an opportunity to form teams and work together to solve a challenging and interesting real-world problem using signal-processing techniques and methods. The inaugural event was held on 8 May 2014, at ICASSP2014, Florence, Italy. Three teams were selected to present their work for the final competition, and the prizes were awarded at the conference.

The Audio and Acoustic Signal Processing (AASP) Technical Committee promotes the advancement of technologies and applications in audio and acoustic signal processing and enhances interaction with similar organizations within IEEE and throughout the world.

Last year, the SPS Board of Governors approved the creation of Special Interest Groups. Special Interest Groups are provisional groups that are created to quickly address emerging technical areas.

The SPS Awards Board is now accepting nominations for 2014 major SPS awards. Each year, SPS honors outstanding individuals who have made significant contributions related to signal processing through the Society Award, the Technical Achievement Award, the Education Award, and the Meritorious Service Award.

IEEE has officially released the names of the 2015-2016 IEEE Annual Election candidates. We are proud to note that many of the candidates are Signal Processing Society members. Four of the candidates, in particular, have served as Signal Processing Society Officers.

Your vote is important! The election of Directors-at-Large for Regions 1-6 and Region 8 (term 1 January 2015 through 31 December 2016) and Members-at-Large (term 1 January 2015 through 31 December 2017) of the IEEE SPS Board of Governors is now open.

IEEE Member and Geographic Activities (MGA) recently launched a new way for Sections to recognize members for their years of service to IEEE. The IEEE Loyalty Program allows Section leaders to thank new and longtime members alike, regardless of grade, with commemorative lapel pins to celebrate milestone years of IEEE membership.

The IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) and the European Association for Signal Processing (EURASIP) are proud to announce their new partnership, benefitting the signal processing community. The agreement allows SPS and EURASIP to support one another by way of co-sponsorship of EUSIPCO, co-sponsorship of seasonal schools held in Europe, sharing of Distinguished Lecturers, and more.

Do you know someone, living or deceased, who has made one or more major contribution(s) to IEEE Technical Activities? Now is your chance to nominate him or her for the Technical Activities Board Hall of Honor. Nominees will be considered based on their contributions to the creation, development, or advancement of the technical objectives of the IEEE.

In a continuing effort to provide world-class resources to new and future generations of engineers, IEEE Young Professionals has introduced two new services – IEEE ResumeLab and IEEE Mentor Centre.

Now IEEE SPS has built a streamlined mechanism for employers to add a job announcement by simply filling in a simple job opportunity submission Web form at the related TC section pages.
