10 years of news and resources for members of the IEEE Signal Processing Society
by Dr. Mohammad Faizal Ahmad Fauzi, Multimedia University, Malaysia, Chapter Chair.
In year 2010, IEEE Signal Processing Malaysia Chapter has organized various activities ranging from membership drive, workshops, technical talks, technical visit, competition, conference technical co-sponsorships, social activities as well as administrative meetings.
Five workshops, including one fully sponsored by the chapter, were organized:
Eight technical talks were held at four locations: Multimedia University (MMU), AIMST University, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). These technical talks covered a wide range of topics, including signal processing in various biomedical applications and sensor applications, disease detection using artificial neural network, statistical multivariate technique for some image analysis problems, etc. The workshop and technical talks were well perceived. For many events, there were over 50 attendees.
We also had a technical visit to several labs in UTP as well as running a logo design competition for ICSIPA2011. A couple of social activities were also held in conjunction with our UTP technical visit. Four administrative meetings and a membership drive were also held in 2010.
In 2010, we collaborated with four conferences (cooperative sponsor for IWAIT2010 and SCORED2010 and technical co-sponsor for ISSPA2010 and SITIS2010). In 2011, we will organize the 2nd IEEE International Conference on Signal and Image Processing Applications (ICSIPA 2011). Details of the conference can be found at the conference website (http://www.sp.ieeemalaysia.org/ICSIPA2011).
The IEEE Malaysia chapter has played an important role in promoting interactions and idea exchanges among researchers, students, and industrial partners in the field of signal processing. In year 2011, the chapter will continue to serve SPS members and assist to advance innovations in signal processing theoretic and applications. We welcome SPS members of other IEEE chapters to visit us and Malaysia.
