Call for Nominations: Chief Editor, SigPort

Kostas Plataniotis, SPS Vice President-Membership

The IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) invites nominations for the position of Chief Editor for the Signal Processing Repository (SigPort) for a 3-year term starting 1 January 2015. SigPort is in the development stage, but it will be the Society’s online archive of manuscripts, reports, theses, and supporting materials. It will collect technical material of interest to the broad signal processing community. It will host material ineligible or unintended for formal publication, and manuscripts to help individuals obtain early exposure and feedback on their work prior to possible formal publication.

The Chief Editor's duties include identification of Editors to serve on the editorial board of SigPort; management of the day-to-day operations of SigPort through periodic reports and user feedback; identifying areas that require strengthening of SigPort; oversight of SigPort submissions; monitoring the quality of SigPort; oversight of the SigPort Editorial Board; and ensuring the visibility of SigPort. The Chief Editor is responsible for working with the Society's Vice President-Membership to create strategic and long-term plans for SigPort. The Chief Editor chairs the SigPort Editorial Board and serves on and is a voting member of the Society's Membership Board.

Nominations for Chief Editor are restricted to individuals who have experience with society publications, such as former associate editors of IEEE publications and/or past members of the Publications Board and who are members in good standing of the IEEE and of the Society. Preference will be given, to individuals who have experience with both web-based platforms and have IEEE publications experience. Nominations should be submitted to Theresa Argiropoulos at t.argiropoulos@ieee.org, who will collect the nominations on behalf of Kostas Plataniotis, Vice President-Membership. Nominations must include:

  • a brief IEEE-style biography, including a listing of the candidate’s editorial experience;
  • a web address that contains the candidate’s CV (do not send a curriculum vitae with the nomination);
  • a brief narrative supporting statement from the nominator(s);
  • optionally, a statement of interest of up to 500 words stating the nominee’s vision for the journal.

Nominations must be received no later than 30 September 2014.
