News and Resources for Members of the IEEE Signal Processing Society

November 2015

Professor Alfred Leo Maria Fettweis, one of the pioneers of digital signal processing passed away on August 20, 2015 in Bochum, Germany. Our community has lost a giant who made seminal contributions not only to engineering, but also to science. His ideas were visionary and far ahead of his time.

IEEE 2nd World Forum on Internet of Things - Technologies, Applications and Social Implications is a unique event for industry leaders, academics and decision making government officials. This event is designed to examine key critical innovations across technologies, which will alter the research and application space of the future.

In the last months, several discussions have been raised up by the NSA statements about backdoored cryptosystems up to the announcement about the need for post-quantum cryptography (PCQ). In particular one passage leaves open multiple interesting questions and conjectures:

For those partners and vendors that have not yet made the transition to Suite B algorithms, we recommend not making a significant expenditure to do so at this point but instead to prepare for the upcoming quantum resistant algorithm transition.

IEEE Transactions on Signal and Information Processing over Networks

SPECIAL ISSUE ON INFERENCE AND LEARNING OVER NETWORKS

At its 20 June 2015 meeting, the IEEE Member and Geographic Activities (MGA) Board approved adding the rebate schedule to Section 9.0.E of the MGA Operations Manual. Including the rebate schedule in the MGA Operations Manual will ensure members and volunteers have direct access to the official MGA approved rebate definition, eligibility requirements, and schedule. The rebate schedule has also been streamlined to remove repetitive information and clarify areas such as activity bonus for affinity groups and rebates for members in geographic units outside of Sections.

The fourth IEEE Global Conference on Signal and Information Processing (GlobalSIP) will be held in Greater Washington, DC, USA on December 7–9, 2016. GlobalSIP has rapidly assumed flagship status within the IEEE Signal Processing Society. It focuses on signal and information processing and up-and-coming signal processing themes. The conference aims to feature world-class speakers, tutorials, exhibits, and oral and poster sessions. GlobalSIP is comprised of co-located symposia selected based on responses to the Call for Symposium Proposals. Topics include but are not limited to:

At its 20 June 2015 meeting, the MGA Board approved revisions to Section 9 of the MGA Operations Manual, regarding term limits for Section, Chapter, and Affinity Group officers. These revisions are reflected in Sections 9.4.F.7, 9.6.D.5, and 9.9.D.6 and are to be in effect for all elections for terms of office starting 1 January 2016.
