Activity Report from the IVMSP-TC

By:
Nikolaos Boulgouris

Image, Video, and Multidimensional Signal Processing Technical Committee (IVMSP TC) promotes and guides the advancement of the field of image, video, and multidimensional signal processing. It provides leadership for the technical programs for ICIP and for the IVMSP-related areas at ICASSP; recruits and volunteers reviewers for ICIP and for the IVMSP-related areas at ICASSP; assists in proposing and organizing ICIP; organizes and operates IVMSP workshops and sessions at ICIP and ICASSP; and participates in a range of other SPS activities.

During the past year, IVMSP TC has continued its key role in overseeing the organization, reviewing process and the technical program of the ICIP and ICASSP conferences, and provided core reviewing by volunteer TC members. ICIP 2018 was held in Athens, Greece, from October 7th to 10th, and featured five special sessions from diverse areas in image processing and its applications, three keynote lectures given by prominent speakers, as well as nine tutorials. About 1,800 papers were submitted to ICIP 2018, and 839 high-quality papers were accepted for presentation at the conference, which was attended by over 1,300 attendees. The technical programme was complemented by industry workshops, panels, and other events. This year’s ICASSP will take place in Brighton, UK, while ICIP will take place in Taipei, Taiwan.

In January 2019, the TC has welcomed six new members. Newly elected members for a three-year term (2019-2021) are, in alphabetical order: Eduardo Antônio Barros da Silva (Federal University of Rio de Janeiro), Touradj Ebrahimi (École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne), Jana Ehmann (Google Inc), Zhu Li (University of Missouri), Enrico Magli (Politecnico di Torino), and Wenjun Zeng (Microsoft Research Asia). Congratulations to the new members!

The TC is also delighted to announce that, as of January 2019, four members of the committee have been elevated to the IEEE Fellow grade.

Mujdat Cetin, TC member, from the University of Rochester, USA, and Sabanci University, Turkey, has been recognized for his contributions to image processing for synthetic aperture radar and sensor array.

Patrick Le Callet, TC member from Polytech Nantes/Université de Nantes, has been recognised for his contributions to perceptual optimization of video signal processing.

Tao Mei, TC member from JD AI Research, has been recognised for his contributions to multimedia analysis and applications.

Yap-Peng Tan, TC member from NTU, has been recognised for his contributions to visual data analysis and processing.

Congratulations!

IVMSP TC welcomes participation from all members of the SPS technical community interested in the TC areas. Affiliate membership within the TC is open to all, and you are encouraged to sign up. For additional information, please visit the TC website.
