News and Resources for Members of the IEEE Signal Processing Society

May 2019

The importance of developing cognitive computation and cognitive systems has long been of interest. This research field is now rapidly expanding with the current influx of artificial intelligence innovations. Nowadays, machine learning solutions are dramatically transforming the lives of humans and are having a profound impact on a wide range of disciplines and industries. However, machine learning is not omnipotent, especially under the circumstance of cognitive systems operating in open and dynamic environments.

Uncertain multicriteria decision making is to select or rank objects based on the evaluation done by the decisionmaker on several criteria under uncertainty. Uncertain multicriteria decision making has been proved as a useful means in diverse fields such as management, finance, economics, education, environmental protection, medicine, engineering, and so on. Due to numerous successful applications, it becomes more and more prevailing.

The IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) is dedicated to promoting webinars on technical and technological innovations (and their applications) in signal processing from top researchers and thought leaders in academia and industry making these available on the SPS Resource Center

The list of tables of contents (TOCs) are now available for May 2019. The TOCs are formatted to the style of its publication and offers not only links to the full issue on the front cover, but also links to the individual articles within each TOC to take you to IEEEXplore®.

Each year, the IEEE Board of Directors confers the grade of Fellow on up to one-tenth of one percent of the voting members. To qualify for consideration, an individual must have been a Member, normally for five years or more, and a Senior Member at the time for nomination to Fellow.

IEEE SPS has built a streamlined mechanism for employers to add a job announcement by simply filling in a simple job opportunity submission Web form related to a particular TC field. To submit job announcements for a particular Technical Committee, the submission form can be found by visiting the page below and selecting a particular TC. Visit the SPS Job Submission Form.

Due to overwhelming interest in Member Driven Initiative funding, the IEEE Signal Processing Society has changed its process for submitting proposals through the program. This includes proposals for Forums, Regional Meetings, and Chapter Driven Initiatives.

The SPS Awards Board is now accepting nominations for all Society level awards, from paper awards to the major society awards. Nominations are due by 1 September 2019.  Nominators should take into consideration the need for representation of diversity in the award nomination slate, when submitting their nominations.
