Jiebo Luo
The IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) is happy to announce that Prof. Jiebo Luo will be the new Editor-in-Chief (EIC) of the IEEE Transactions on Multimedia (T-MM). His three-year term will be from January 2020 to December 2022.
Professor Jiebo Luo is a Professor with the Department of Computer Science at the University of Rochester, NY. Prior to joining the faculty of the University of Rochester, he was a Senior Principal Scientist with the Kodak Research Laboratories, where he conducted and led research and advanced development for over 15 years. His research interests include computer vision, multimedia, machine learning, data mining, biomedical informatics, and social computing. He has authored over 400 peer-reviewed journal and conference papers and holds over 90 granted U.S. patents (with an H-Index of 83+ and over 20,000 total citations). Dr. Luo was the recipient or co-recipient of the SPIE Best Student Paper Award for Visual Communication and Image Processing in 1994, Certificate of Merit for Scientific Exhibit from RSNA in 1998, Best Poster Paper Award at the 2008 ACM International Conference on Content-based Image and Video Retrieval, Best Student Paper Award (senior author) of the 2010 IEEE Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR), 2014 IEEE Multimedia Prize Paper Award, Best Paper Award at the 2015 ACM International Conference on Internet Multimedia Computing and Service (ICIMCS), and Best Industrial Related Paper Award at the 2018 ACM International Conference on Pattern Recognition (ICPR). He was the recipient of the 2018 IEEE Region 1 Technological Innovation in Academic Award.
Professor Luo is active in the organizing or participating in program committees of numerous technical conferences, including (most notably) the General Chair of the 2007 SPIE International Symposium on Visual Communication and Image Processing (VCIP), 2008 ACM International Conference on Content- based Image and Video Retrieval (CIVR), and 2018 ACM Multimedia Conference, the Program Chair of the 2010 ACM Multimedia Conference, 2012 IEEE Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR), 2016 ACM International Conference on Multimedia Retrieval (ICMR), and 2017 IEEE International Conference on Image Processing (ICIP). He was the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Multimedia (Academy Publisher, 2009-2015). He also served on the editorial boards of the IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence (TPAMI), IEEE Transactions on Multimedia (TMM), IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology (TCSVT), IEEE Transactions on Big Data (TBD), ACM Transactions on Intelligent Systems and Technology (TIST), Pattern Recognition (PR), Machine Vision and Applications (MVAP), Knowledge and Information Systems (KAIS), and Journal of Electronic Imaging (JEI). He is a guest editor for numerous special issues, including “Image Understanding for Digital Photos” (PR, 2005), “Real-World Image Annotation and Retrieval” (TPAMI, 2008), “Event Analysis in Video” (TCSVT, 2008), “Integration of Content and Context for Multimedia Management” (TMM, 2009), “Probabilistic Graphic Models in Computer Vision” (TPAMI, 2009), “Knowledge Discovery Over Community-Contributed Multimedia Data” (IEEE Multimedia Magazine, 2010), "Social Media as Sensors" (TMM, 2013), “Deep Learning for Multimedia” (TMM, 2015), and “Video Analytics with Deep Learning” (Pattern Recognition, 2016). He was the chair of the Rochester Chapter of the IEEE Signal Processing Society (2001), and a member of multiple IEEE Technical Committees (IMDSP, MLSP, MMSP) and conference steering committees (ACM CIVR/ICMR, IEEE ICME).
He has also served on research grant review panels for many government funding agencies in U.S., Canada, The Netherlands, and Hong Kong. He is a Kodak Distinguished Inventor, a winner of the 2004 Eastman Innovation Award, a Data Science CoE Distinguished Researcher with the Goergen Institute for Data Science, and an advisor to Tencent. Dr. Luo is a Fellow of the SPIE, IAPR, IEEE, ACM, and AAAI.
