Technical Committee News

The Machine Learning for Signal Processing Technical Committee (MLSP TC) is involved with activities that support the use of Machine Learning techniques for Signal Processing problems. The scope of this TC is fairly wide, ranging from traditional machine learning and pattern recognition, to approaches that combine material from both disciplines. Under the scope of the MLSP TC we find areas such as source separation, graphical and kernel methods for time-series, Bayesian non-parametrics, and matrix and tensor factorizations among many more.

The complexity we are involved in, nowadays, is the result of the very fast changing of the world scenario from the point of view of social life, economy, shortage of resources, etc. Internet and social networks, a kind of virtual cyber-skin embracing the planet, have tightly interconnected people, infrastructures and economic systems. All these changes have been fostered by technology innovation and we can only expect, due to the pace of technology innovation, that more changes are to come.

The Design and Implementation of Signal Processing Systems Technical Committee has the mission to promote and support activities of the IEEE Signal Processing Society in the areas of: i) design, development and implementation of signal processing systems; ii) design of algorithms with implementation in mind and iii) design of software tools and methodologies to support the design of signal processing systems.

The Bio Imaging and Signal Processing (BIPS) Technical Committee updates this month on awards, past and future competitions and more

The Signal Processing for Communications and Networking Technical Committee (SPCOM TC) promotes activities that illuminate and explore signal processing challenges in communications and networking. These activities take place at the interfaces between the IEEE Signal Processing (SPS), Communications (COMSOC), and Information Theory (IT) Societies.

Welcome to the Fall 2014 edition of the IEEE Speech and Language Processing Technical Committee's Newsletter! This issue of the newsletter includes 7 articles and announcements from 13 contributors, including our own staff reporters and editors. Thank you all for your contributions! This issue includes news about IEEE journals and recent workshops, SLTC call for nominations, and individual contributions.

The Audio and Acoustic Signal Processing (AASP) Technical Committee promotes the advancement of technologies and applications in audio and acoustic signal processing and enhances interaction with similar organizations within IEEE and throughout the world.

Last year, the SPS Board of Governors approved the creation of Special Interest Groups. Special Interest Groups are provisional groups that are created to quickly address emerging technical areas.

The Nominations and Appointments Subcommittee for each Technical Committee is currently seeking nominations for new Members, as well as the Vice Chair position for some Technical Committees.

The Signal Processing Society (SPS) has 12 technical committees and two Special Interest Groups (SIGs) that support a broad selection of signal processing related activities defined by the scope of the Society. Technical Committees and SIGs are actively involved in awards, conferences, publications, and educational activities, and provide technical advice to the Society’s leadership.
