News and Resources for Members of the IEEE Signal Processing Society
The Divisions of Critical Care Medicine and Fetal and Transitional Medicine at Children’s National Medical Center are now actively recruiting for the position of Advanced Signals Processing Lab Scientist.
This is a unique laboratory in a major 300-bed children’s hospital with three intensive care units (neonatal, cardiac, and pediatric multidisciplinary) and a total of 100 critical care beds. The goal of this laboratory is to investigate and advance the field of pediatric critical care monitoring through multiple system signal analysis, with subjects recruited from the almost 15,000 critically ill children admitted to these intensive care units each year.
As lead scientist, you will supervise all research activities, develop and nurture a vibrant culture of rigorous scientific investigation in the laboratory, and serve as a principal consultant for the development of innovative techniques for facilitating the interrogation of systems control in critically ill children. Additionally, you will also manage the input, storage, and organization of large datasets transmitted from bedside monitors in the intensive care units; design and generate computer reports to meet the needs of research projects; and work closely with clinical researchers, biomedical engineers, and information technologists to advance the success of the laboratory.
Requirements:
Position requires a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science or a related discipline, and significant post-doctoral experience. Strong training and expertise in human adult and/or pediatric physiology (cardiovascular, cerebrovascular, neurological and respiratory in particular) preferred but not essential. Competence in Linux, Windows, C/C++, Perl, Matlab, SQL, and open-source biomedical signal formats and libraries is essential as well as expertise in mathematical modeling, simulation, and signal processing. Experience in supervising students and staff and strong communication skills are also desired.
