IEEE SPS 2011 Member-at-Large Election Results

Four new Members-at-Large will take their seats on the Signal Processing Society Board of Governors beginning 1 January 2012. Three will serve for a three-year term until 31 December 2014 (Philip Chou, C.-C. Jay Kuo and Anna Scaglione) and the fourth (Fernando Pereira) will fill a vacant Member-at-Large position for the 2012 calendar year. Nine candidates competed for the four Member-at-Large positions. The successful candidates represent a broad spectrum of the Signal Processing Society, and the Board of Governors confirmed the election results at their 15 September 2011 Board meeting. The successful candidates are:

Philip A. Chou
Microsoft Corporation
C.-C. Jay Kuo
University of Southern California
Anna Scaglione
University of California, Davis
Fernando Pereira
Instituto Superior Tecnico & Instituto de Telecomunicacoes

Completing their terms as Members-at-Large on 31 December 2011 are:

  • Charles A. Bouman (Purdue University); 
  • Sheila S. Hemami (Cornell University) and 
  • Mari Ostendorf (University of Washington).

The Board of Governors (BoG) is the governing body that oversees the activities of the IEEE Signal Processing Society. The SPS BoG has the responsibility of establishing and implementing policy, and receiving reports from its standing boards and committees. Members-at-Large represent the member view point in the Board decision-making. They typically review, discuss, and act upon a wide range of items affecting the actions, activities, and health of the Society.
