Call for Participation: IEEE Signal Processing Cup 2014

Challenge: Image restoration/Super-resolution for Single Particle Analysis

www.icassp2014.org/SP_cup.html

The IEEE Signal Processing Society organizes a project competition for undergraduates at ICASSP2014. This competition, namely the Signal Processing Cup (SP Cup), aims to provide undergraduate students with the opportunity to form teams and work together to solve a challenging and interesting real-world problem using signal-processing techniques. Three teams will be selected to present their work, and prizes will be awarded at ICASSP 2014.

You are very welcome to participating in the competition. Please also help us to circulate this email to other colleagues or students you know who may be interested in this competition.

Participation in the Competition:

Each team participating in the competition is to be composed of one faculty member (whose role is the supervisor of the team members), at most one graduate student (who will assist the supervisor in supervising the undergraduate team members), and at least 3 but no more than 10 undergraduates. At least three of the undergraduate team members must be either IEEE SP members or student members. Participating teams must register to join the competition by December 1, 2013. The registration and submission system will be available in late October 2013.

Participating teams must submit their project by February 28, 2014. Each submission should include a report, in the form of an IEEE conference paper, on the technical details of the methods used and the results, as well as the programs developed (MATLAB is preferred). By March 21, 2014, the best 3 teams will be identified to participate in the final competition at ICASSP2014.

Important Dates:

December 2, 2013 (Monday): Team registration to join the SP Cup competition

February 28, 2014 (Friday): Submission deadline for participating teams

March 21, 2014 (Friday): Announcement of the best 3 teams

May 4-9, 2014: Final competition at ICASSP 2014

Team Prizes:

The champion: $5,000

The first runner-up: $2,500

The second runner-up: $1,500

Each team invited to ICASSP2014 will have their travel expenses supported by the SP Society. Each team member is offered up to $1200 for continental travel, or $1,700 for intercontinental travel, and at most 3 people from each team will be supported.
