Welcome to the June edition of Speech and Language Processing Technical Committee (SLTC) Newsletter of 2019!
Some conference news to kick things off. Since the last newsletter, ICASSP 2019 was held in Brighton, UK from May 12-17. Hamid Palangi is here to share a recap. The ASRU 2019 deadline is TODAY, July 1, 2019! To everyone wrapping up submissions, I hope to see you in Singapore.
In this edition of "Getting to Know Your Fellow Researchers" we are very happy to get to know Dilek Hakkani-Tür of Amazon Alexa AI. Dr. Hakkani-Tür is a fellow of both the IEEE and ISCA. She has a comprehensive perspective on conversation, dialog, spoken language processing and offers her insights to us in this column.
Hynek Hermansky has been awarded the 2020 James L. Flanagan Speech and Audio Processing Award "For contributions to speech processing and feature extraction for robust speech recognition". Huge congratulations for a very deserved acknowledgement! We featured Prof. Hermansky in "Getting to Know Your Fellow Researchers" last March. This is as good a time as any to check it out, if you missed it then.
As ever, we'd like to draw your attention to our community's upcoming conferences and workshops and job postings.
And in case you didn’t know:
This newsletter is an ideal forum for updates, reports, announcements and editorials which don't fit well with traditional journals. We welcome your contributions, as well as calls for papers, job announcements, comments and suggestions. You can submit job postings here, and contact the TC via this form, or send mail to speechnewseds@listserv.ieee.
If you want to stay connected to the IEEE SLTC between newsletters, we are on twitter @IEEE_SLTC.
Sincerely,
Andrew Rosenberg, Editor
Patrick Nguyen, Editor
Asli Celikyilmaz, Editor
