IEEE has announced a new subscription option available only to IEEE members.

IEEE Member Digital Library Basic provides IEEE members with three new full-text article downloads every month, plus the ability to rollover unused downloads for 12 months, for only US$15 per month.

Professor Al Bovik's research interests broadly span the areas of digital video, image processing, and computational aspects of biological visual perception. In the September issue of IEEE Signal Processing Magazine, Dr. Bovik published a 7 page-long article, not on his exciting research, but on how to optimize the educational experience of students learning the subject of video processing.

The National Science Foundation (NSF) East Asia and Pacific Summer Institutes for U.S. Graduate Students (EAPSI) is a flagship international fellowship program for developing the next generation of globally engaged U.S. scientists and engineers knowledgeable about the Asian and Pacific regions. The Summer Institutes are hosted by foreign counterparts committed to increasing opportunities for young U.S. researchers to work in research facilities and with host mentors abroad.

Technical Activities has expanded its volunteer training program to include short, on-line volunteer training modules.   Each module will focus on information or a process that will assist volunteers in their IEEE activities.

The goal of the program is to provide key volunteer information in a convenient, user-friendly format.  A listing of currently-available modules can be found at:  http://www.ieee.org/go/volunteertraining.

The Banff International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery is hosting a 49-week scientific program in 2012. The deadline for 5-day Workshop and Summer School proposals is September 27, 2010.

The new IEEE Xplore self-paced training modules are designed to give you a quick overview of the most-requested training topics, including (a) Basic and Advanced Searching with IEEE Xplore and (b) Personalization in IEEE Xplore, including setting alerts.

Given the prevalence and success of speech, audio, image, and video compression algorithms in consumer electronics, it is surprising that many high-speed digital signal processing (DSP) systems such as wireless infrastructure, radar processing, and medical imaging sensor subsystems have until recently not considered compression as an alternative for reducing data acquisition bandwidth and storage bottlenecks.

IEEE announced the launch of IEEE Xplore Mobile, which incorporates enhancements based on user feedback collected from a beta test period that began in June 2009. IEEE Xplore Mobile gives users the ability to conveniently perform searches of over two million technical documents with any mobile device connected to the Internet. To try IEEE Xplore Mobile, go to http://m.ieeexplore.ieee.org.

The July 2010 “Best of the Web” column of the IEEE Signal Processing Magazine introduces the social signal processing network (SSPNet), a large European collaboration aimed at establishing a research community in social signal processing (SSP),
