The IEEE Signal Processing Society continues to track emerging technical areas. As a result, the Society has decided to create two new SPS Technical Interest Profile (TIP) Code categories in the fields of Data Science and Autonomous Systems to keep pace with the expanding technical disciplines.

When did you first come into touch with signal processing? What was your motivation of following a career in this domain?
In 1984 I obtained my first degree which was a five years diploma in Electrical Engineering. My favorite courses were quite diverse, from Electromagnetism and Antenna Theory to Automatic Control, System Theory and Stochastic Processes.

The IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) invites nominations for the position of Awards Board Chair. The term for the Awards Board Chair position will be three years (1 January 2019-31 December 2021).

Speech coding is a field in which compression paradigms have not changed in the last 30 years. Speech signals are most commonly encoded with compression methods that have roots in linear predictive theory dating back to the early 1940s.

In the last decade, bioinformatics data has been accumulated at an unprecedented rate, thanks to the advancement in sequencing technologies. Such rapid development poses both challenges and promising research topics. In this dissertation, the authors propose a series of associative pattern recognition algorithms in biological regulation studies.
